Chen Xiaoyun’s solo exhibition

Chinese artist Chen Xiaoyun is exhibiting his sculptures, paintings and video installations at Enclave Independent Store.

Chen’s works are artistic and poetic in style, with introspective thinking presented through the structure of narratives as well as through individual fragments of consciousness, channeling the real world in a video format. His works usually start with a caption, a dialogue, or a motion that is then overlapped, refined and abstracted, manipulating perception of our known world, and creating sights that are more ridiculous, hesitant and vain.

The exhibition was curated by Bao Dong, an art critic and independent curator based in Beijing. In contributing essays and other forms of involvement, Bao has established himself as a leading curator and critic of the work done by the latest generation. His articles have been widely published in art journals and artist monographs both at home and abroad. He has curated many exhibitions for a wide range of art institutions including Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, the Art Center of Chulalongkorn University, Guangdong Times Museum and Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum. He was awarded Asian Cultural Council (ACC) fellowship grant in 2014, and became a nominee of Independent Curators International’s (ICI) 2014 Independent Vision Curatorial Award. Recently he was awarded Yishu Awards for Curating Contemporary Chinese Art 2016.
